Short Answer: It’s amazing

This is a “spring” jumper which can be attached to any doorway or sturdy frame for open rooms. You strap your baby safely into a harness to jump, spin, bounce, and build strength in their legs with upright posture.

What are Jolly Jumpers?

It’s kind of like a baby exerciser machine. Hang in here with me, I promise it’s worth it.

Why we choose the Jolly Jumper

Truth be told, my family had one of these growing up that lasted all 5 of our kids, and now it is getting passed around the grandkids. That old thing (called the Johnny jump up) has stood the test of time. We LIVED in that thing. Since it’s been passed around multiple times to multiple family members and their kids. It’s been taped, replaced, and was a hodgepodge of parts SO we decided to get our own. That’s why there are two different colors of harnesses.

Jolly Jumper (version 1)

However, there aren’t many options we liked online. Most seemed like a swing or a basket with holes in the bottom for the kids legs to touch the floor. We found the Jolly Jumper baby exerciser and was hoping it would live up to the older version we grew up with. Turns out it does! It took the spring a little bit to relax but after a few jump session, we were very happy with the choice.

We liked the design of the Jolly Jumpers because was less bulky, and the harness was secure and actually held our baby upright when she could control her head. It’s nice to let our little one hang out in the door way and have a 360 view of their surroundings while working on their motor skills.

Design and Product Details

Let’s start at the top. You clamp this contraption to any doorway, or they have some stands if you want them in the middle of a room. From the secure clamp, there is a spring which your baby uses to gently tap the ground with their feet resulting (overtime) in a happy jumping baby.

After the spring there is an adjustable chain so when your baby gains some weight, you adjust the chain so their toes are lightly touching the ground.

Then there is a plastic bar with hooks, then the harness. The harness velcros on the sides so you don’t have to worry about your child falling out to the floor, then secures with some clips. It keeps your baby upright and as long as your baby can hold up their head (usually 3 months +) they can breath easily.

Cons

The Jolly baby Jumper takes some skill to get your child in and out. We have done it two ways. The first is to lay everything on the ground, then put your baby into it and lift them up with the overarching plastic bar, then hook to the doorway.

The second way is to have it hooked on the doorway already, then slide your baby into place and Velcro/clip them in for safety. Both are kind of awkward and are more easily done with 2 people. But as we mamas know, our papa bears are not always around to help. So it will take you a few times to find your method. You also can’t use this product until the baby can keep their head up right on their own but by that time their motor skills are stronger.

I mentioned before that the spring took some time to relax. At first our child would jump up and the spring would be totally recoiled and make a clinking sound. She was use to jumping higher but after the spring relaxed we got back into the groove and she was ready to party in her baby exerciser.

Are Jolly Jumpers helpful?

To me, these are one of those quality products that are worth the cost because it gives these delightful children more freedom to move around. It also give you more freedom with your hands! It helps with building muscle and motor skills.
